Word 2003 and Access 2000 compatibility

Hi,

I've been using Word2003 and Access2003 successfully for a number of years
now, however, I have recently found that a Word2003 document using an
Access2000 database would not link, I keep getting the error that 'the DDE
connection could not be established'.

However, if I use Word 2000 with the Access2000 database or Word2000 with
Access2003 database these link without any problems. I'm wondering, does this
mean that Word2003 is not compatible with Access2000?

Thanks is advance for your help.

It's more that the DDE commands Word 2003 uses aren't recognized by Access 2000.
But that doesn't mean you can't mailmerge to an Access 2000 database. Activate
"Confirm conversions on open" in Tools/Options/General. Now select the Access
2000 *.mdb file. You should get a list of connection methods - choose ODBC.

If you want to link to a query, click the "Options" button and activate the
"Views" checkbox to append the list of queries after the tables.

Hi Cindy,

Thanks for your comments, I've tried that already - after I do that it keeps
taking me back to 'Find Data Source'.

Please let me know if you can think of anything else.

Thanks,

Riz

Hi =?Utf-8?B?Uml6?=,
I've tried that already - after I do that it keeps
taking me back to 'Find Data Source'.
Can you be more specific about when this is happening? Does
it not let you perform the merge at all? Or is this just
when you open the main merge document again?

Does this happen only with the one document? If you
- hold down the Ctrl-key to start Word 2003 in Safe Mode
- link the new Word 2003 document you see to the Access
2000 database using ODBC

Does it give you the same problems?
