Word 2002

I use word 2002 and when I save a file and then go to open it. I find it has
been saved twice one as the file that I can open with no problems and one as
a file that is all blocks and funny text. Does any one know how I can stop
this or why it is doing it. All I do at the moment is just delete it but it
is becoming a pain now. Many thanks.

Not necessarily: The "owner" file has a distinct (though not entirely
different) filename, and it is quite readable; it just doesn't contain much
that is useful.

Thanks for the replies. But the files you are referring to Jay (I think) are
the one's word creates automatically in case the computer crashes. These
files have like a ghost effect to them where as mine doesn't. The file is
created as well as the original and stays there even when word is closed or
the computer restarted and when you open it; it just contains all these
blocks and some of the original document. If I and not making any sence let

No, the files "word creates automatically in case the computer crashes" are
the AutoRecover files, which have an .asd file extension and will usually be
in a different folder from your document files. What Jay was referring to
was the ~$filename.doc file that keeps anyone else from opening a document
while you have it open for editing. Such files will say something like this:

(Interestingly, that's not what I saw at all when I looked at the file,
which was mostly a bunch of ÿ characters.)
