I have two clients who have Office XP installed on Windows 98 S
systems. These two people on using identical systems and are on th
same network. The first person can open Word and type a document, bu
whenever she tries to insert a template (new or existing), the syste
locks up. I have already disabled everything in startup and checked t
insure that Microsoft Fax and Windows Messaging aren't installe
(Microsoft reports that these can cause problems), but she is stil
experiencing lockups. The second person gets illegal operation errors
virtual memory errors and system dangerously low on resources warnings
She is also experiencing these problems whenever she tries to insert
template, whether it is new or existing. I rarely use Word and I neve
use templates, so I am at a loss. Any assistance would be appreciated
Thanks

Hi

The way Word is designed to work is that you use a template as the basis on
which to create a new document. That is, when you want to create a new
document, you do File > New and choose the template from which you want to
create your document.

Is that how your users are using templates?
How are the users "inserting" a template into a document?
What add-ins are installed (see
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Customization/CheckIfAddinsInstalled.htm to
find out how to check).

Shauna,

I have gotten some new information from my client which may help. She
was originally using the word template and I didn't know enough about
this to correct her. When I found out what she really meant, I deleted
this thread and posted another thread. But here's the gist of the
issue. The client creates an Excel spreadsheet that contains macros but
no data. She then saves that Excel spreadsheet and opens a new Word
document. When she tries to insert the Excel spreadsheet into the Word
document, the problems start to occur. Although we have restarted the
system without loading startup items, I will say that Wordperfect is
installed on both of these systems and we are wondering if that is
causing the problem. Thanks.
