Word 2002 suddenly opens docs in print view only

I edit professionally with Word 2002, have done so for 2 years w/o problems.
Suddenly a client's doc opened in print view -- nine small squares. Since
then, all docs, even my own, created a long time ago, also open in print or
skewed normal view. I can manage to edit using web view, but there is no
page, column or line indicated on the bottom horizontal bar. I have checked
the settings that I know of in Track Changes and I deleted and reloaded Word
-- no change. Anyone ever heard of this happening? Also, ruler only goes to
7. Note: Over two years, I've never touched the view mode, never had
problems with immediately editing with balloons or anything else.

Thanks.

What happens when you set the zoom to 100%?
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/General/SaveViewAndZoom.htm

and/or
You can control the zoom with auto macros in normal.dot. The following will
set it to 100% zoom regardless of what the document thinks it should be.
Change the 100 to any preferred zoom level. I have included also some of the
other regular problem fixes, but you can remove the extra lines if required.
If you want normal rather than print layout view swap the apostrophe from
the beginning of the line where indicated to the other.

See http://www.gmayor.com/installing_macro.htm
