Word 2002 Problem

Word 2002 supposedly came preinstalled with my husband's computer, but
it has never worked correctly. It may work fine for a couple of days,
and then it reverts back to it's old behavior of trying to install
components for Microsoft Word when he tried to open the program. Often
the errors relate to wordret.msi which it never seems to be able to
find. I'll go through all the trouble of manually browsing for the file
and then Word will work fine for a couple of days. Then the whole thing
starts all over again. I wanted to completely uninstall Word and then do
a clean reinstall but there is no option to uninstall and nothing listed
under Add/Remove Programs. Any ideas?
