Word 2000-why are temp files showing when I try to open new file?

When I open a saved document in Word, if I have any other documents open,
that temp file shows up on the list of files. They did not use to....what do
I change so that I don't see those temp files when trying to open a document?

Files with a .tmp extension will not be seen if "Files of type" is set to
"Word Documents" or "All Word Documents" instead of "All Files." Temp files
with a .doc extension will not be seen if you have chosen not to display
hidden and system files (Tools | Folder Options | View in Windows
Explorer/My Computer).
