When I click on the File Menu in Word 2000, the menu does not expand. I have
to use Alt + F to open it. I tried to reset the toolbars, but that didn't
help either. Perhaps an update?

Hello-

Based on the wording of your post, I get the impression that you may not
have accomplished what you thought when you "reset your toolbars".

If you went to the Customize dialog box ad used the 'Reset menu and toolbar
usage data' button that won't do the trick. Or, if you went to the Toolbars
page and just clicked the 'Reset...' button that wouldn't do it either,
although that is where you want to be. If you didn't before, go back to the
Toolbars page of the Customize dialog box and click on the NAME of the
toolbar you want to reset (in this case, 'Menu Bar') to highlight it, _then_
click reset.

If that is what you did, or if it doesn't fix the problem when you do it
this way, go back into Customize, drag the File menu to the middle of your
window (anywhere away from the Menu bar or another toolbar). Then go to the
Commands page, select 'Built-in Menus' from the left column and drag File
from the right column to where it should be on the Menu Bar.

Thank you. I had already tried to reset the toolbar, as you more fully
described in your answer and that didn't work, but I had not replaced the
File Built In Menu, which fixed my problem. Thank you very much. This is
the first time I have used the Post Discussion Group, so I am not sure how to
rate a reply. I did click that it answered my question. Is that a rating?

I have a similar problem, however the issue is with both the File menu and
the Tools menu. These two menus simply do not open. They will not open with
Alt F or Alt T and they will not open if I click or hover on them.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2003 and that does not help. The
menus work in Excel and in Access and Power Point. The problem is only with
Word.

Resetting the toolbar does not help.

Thanks for any suggestions.
