Word 2000 and Windows XP

Since I installed Word 2000 on a laptop with Windows XP
home edition, the computer does not always boot
properly. After the machine sits turned off for several
hours, it boots properly. Otherwise, the manufacturer's
screen appears (Toshiba), and the machine stops. If
anyone knows how to resolve this issue, I would certainly
appreciate the adivse. Thanks.
