Word 07: Quick Parets: Several questions

C

CoachMitch

1 How do we add to the drop down box in Quick Parts? The 5 visible blocks
are filled and I don't see any way to add another Quick Part to the drop down
box..

2 How do we exchange a Quick Part in the visible drop down blocks if I want
to see a different set of 5 Quick Parts in the drop down box or if I want to
remove one and replace it with another Quick Part?

3 How do I add to the Building Blocks? I don't see any way to do this?

4 Quick Parts vs Auto Text. What is the advantage to using one over the
other? Pardon the ignorance, I've never known about Auto Text.

Thank you.

Hi Mitch,

There are 36 separate building block galleries in Word 2007. Quick Parts and Autotext and only 2 of the 36. Which gallery you
choose to use (including the six 'Custom' named ones) to store things in is up to you, but the choices Word uses as a default are
related to the context. Quick Parts are general ones, and that is one gallery that appears on the Insert tab, while the Page
Layout tab has galleries such as Header, Footer, page numbering and cover page.

Certain galleries can't be customized (Picture styles for example), but most can be. You can use most building block entries from
the galleries through
Insert=>Text=>Quickparts=>Building Block Organizer
(which you may find useful to have on your Quick Access Toolbar (QAT).

Galleries can be subdivided into categories. When you display a gallery the categories are listed alphanumerically, and then the
entry in each category is displayed alphanumerically within a category.

In prior versions of Word there was basically, one gallery (AutoText). It's the underlying engine that runs that feature that has
grown in Word 2007.
