Word 02 Opens Into Old Document

On an Win XP SP2 box using Word 2002, Word has started opening up an old
document when I want to open up a new blank document. It does not matter
where the shortcut is used. Whether it is from All Programs, my desktop, the
Start menu or typing winword.exe into run. Can anyone help with this? I
want it to again open in a blank *new document* in normal fashion.

I neglected to mention that this is a company box fully updated as to SP3
and all updates/hotfixes for Office XP and Word 02.
