won't hibernate or shutdown

Yasmine

When I first clean installed windows xp it choose the
uniprocessor hal which was incorrect because I have a
single processor board which should reas as Advanced
Configuration and Power Interface. In the uniprocessor
installation it would not standby (something to do with
my old videocard) but would hiberate, I think, but would
do a "scandisk" when I touched the mouse to bring it back
up. When I clean installed a second time with the
correct hal it does nothing when I standby or hibernate,
either manually or automatically. Can anyone help?

Hi Yasmine,

Did it funtion correctly under the uniprocessor hal? The loss of that
ability usually indicates non-supporting device drivers for the system
hardware.
