Won't editing cursors potentially make a system unstable?

My son has been getting into his account on our Windows XP Professional
system, then getting into the Control Panel and doing things like "editing
the cursors". (That's what he calls it, I'm not sure where it is.)

Since cursors are global to the system, might it not be possible that he is
potentially messing it up?

Think he is probably using the Mouse applet to change or try out
different Pointer schemes. Nothing inherently dangerous about it.
If he is editing/modifying the actual .Cur files in the Cursors folder
under \Windows that might lead to some issue(s).
