Won't Boot XP CD?

Sarah

After struggling for two days over something I *think* is virus-related
in XP, I decided to use my Windows disc and format/reinstall. However,
my computer seems to be refusing to let me do that. There isn't any
"Press any key to boot from CD" prompt when I reboot it, although I'm
pretty certain BIOS is set up to boot from CD.

Instead, it just takes me straight to the already-installed Windows,
which automatically crashes before I can even log in. I tried
contacting tech support for my computer brand, but they were massively
unhelpful and told me they didn't have any idea what could cause that
to happen.

Can anyone help me with this? Thanks if you can!

Hi

Have you checked in the BIOS to make sure that the CD drive is the 1st
bootable?

Yes. In fact my first task on this Vaio was to change the boot order
to diskette / CD / HDD.
I've booted five different CDs; four XPs and the Vaio Recovery CD.
They all load, but hang at the point they should start doing
something. Alt-Ctl-Del is inactive at this point. It's power-off time.

Hi

Have you tried setting the BIOS to 'Default'?
