Won't boot from CD-ROM

I've been trying to boot into DamnSmallLinux (KNOPPIX) from the CD, but, when I try it, XP just comes up normally. Cold boot, warm boot, it doesn't make any difference. Linux comes up just fine on my Win 2K laptop, so I know it isn't a defective CD. I've checked the BIOS to make sure it's set to boot from the CD drive, so that's not it. I don't know what I'm missing. It's probably some basic setting that I'm forgetting about, but I keep coming up blenk. ANY HELP would be greatly appreciated.

I have seen CD drives that will read a CD fine in Windows, but won't boot
from that CD even though another PC has no trouble booting from it.

What you may want to try is burning your copy onto a different brand of CD.
I know some drives have trouble booting to CD-RWs and the cheaper CD-Rs.

Are you *sure* you set that in the BIOS? Have you tried with another CD that
you know is bootable, like your Windows XP ? If so, then as another poster
said, maybe your PC just doesn't like that brand of CD.

Are you pressing "any key" within 5 seconds to boot from the CD?

Note that the required key and time sequence may vary.
