im getting the following stop error after fitting a new
motherboard :
0x0000007B (0XF7AC5640, 0XC0000034, 0X00000000, 0X00000000)

any help appreciated . thanks

well i have an oem version of xp home, so all i have are
recovery disks, which when i try to put them on im left
with the same problem because they copy the information
for the old motherboard.
is it possible for me to boot with the old m/b in, install
the new m/b drivers then shut down, put the new board in
and boot with it?

This error message means:

Inaccessable_Boot_Device

Your boot.ini file is pointing to the wrong partition.
You should boot to your Windows XP CD, log onto the
recovery console, and use the Bootcfg command to scan for
available Windows installations and repair the Boot.ini
file automatically.

OEM versions could well tie the discs to the hardware as they are sometimes
just an image file of what is required rather than a generic install disk.
If this is the case you will need to buy a copy of XP.

The only effective way to switch motherboards is to change
the IDE drivers to "Standard Dual IDE" which is a generic
driver that will work with either an Intel or Via chipset MB.
If you change the driver before shutting down, the % that
the new motherboard will at least boot is pretty good. That
being said, you may have trouble with restoring the proper
chipset drivers and other sub-systems after you get Windows
XP back up and running. The preferred method is probably
always going to be a "Repair" install.

You xp may be physically tied to the motherboard which would make it almost
impossible to change the motherboard and reinstall xp. Also according to the
ms eula an oem version cannot be transfered to another computer/motherboard.
If you have an oem version you cannot install it on any other motherboard,
it must stay with the original motherboard it was installed on. In this case
you would need to purchase a retail copy of xp to install with the new
computer. So it looks like even if you choose to ignore the eula, that your
xp version is most likely bios locked and you won't be able to install it on
any other motherboard. These are some of the reasons why oem computers and
oem version of xp are cheaper than custom computer and retail versions of
xp.

You are probably out of luck, and the restore disks will not usually restore
to different hardware. You will need to purchase a fresh XP of the same
version Home or Pro if you want to try to boot the original XP
installation. It may be a lost cause anyway, but you will need a proper XP
CD to reinstall XP.
