Am certainly glad I checked the messages re: the "upgrade" before I
downloaded/installed the "SP3 update"!!

I am NOT a computer person - so when (not "if") this "update" screwed up
my computer .... I would have to have somebody come out - or me untangle it
and take it somewhere ... to get it fixed !!!

This is when it pays to be highly cynical of anything "new", "improved",
etc.etc.!
ESPECIALLY from Microsoft!!!

What messages? What upgrade?

Did you have a question or just want to rant? The Service Pack 3 update
usually goes very well and easily. It normally doesn't produce "messages"
though so you may be confusing it with something else or misunderstanding
something you saw.

If you have an issue that you'd like help with, please look at the
information at some of these links first:

Then come back with all pertinent details and one of the many volunteers who
help out here will respond. If it was just a rant, you'd have more
satisfactory results by talking to a friend who cares about you.

If there was some sort of list it would be helpful.

After reading the Microsoft Documentation I've given SP3 a pass

What "Vonage application"? Vonage runs through your router and isn't
connected to the computer at all. There is no application that needs
to be run.

I run SP3 on both of Windows XP machines here, and also use Vonage.
Neither even sees the other and there is no conflict between them.

I don't blame you. I installed SP3, then Windows stated that my O/S
is not genuine so I had to contact the Microsoft Call Center in India.
It is fine now, but if I knew what I had to go through I'd skip SP3.

<pft> The vast majority of WinXP users have installed SP3 without a hitch!

Why did you contact MS in India..? MS has customer services/ tech support in the U.K.. Seems like you are just following the rest of the sheep that say they had to speak to somebody in a foreign country...
