WMP9 won't play HD Video

When I downloaded one of the High definition video demos off of the microsoft website, my screen went completely black and the video could not be played. When I got in to the task manager and shut down the media player, the display resolution had been completely messed up and I had to reboot. How can I view HD video without this problem occuring again?

I am having the exact same problem with all video files. If you have already figured this out will you please tell me how you fixed it? Otherwise if you haven't figured it out yet, will you please reply and tell me what to do after to figure it out?
