WMP - setting VIDEO genre, artist etc

I generally like Media Player and fully believe in the "Digital Home" but am
having difficulty in organising my videos.

There is an option to view by Genre, Artist etc but I can't find a way to
set these tags.
Without properly organsing videos, then Media Player just isn't scalable.

If (as I suspect) it is not possible to set these tags for videos, then is
there a way to view by folder WITHIN media player? At least that way I can
organise the videos manually.

Thanks is antici........pation

Go to the Library pane of the player
Select the Video view (just underneath Now Playing you can select Audio,
Pictures, Video, etc views)
To the left of WMP's Search box, select that dropdown and switch to Details
view
Now you're in a metadata-editing friendly mode and can now do exactly what
you're asking for.

Thanks for the info. However, I find that with AVI files there is no "genre"
in the properties dialog box outside of media center. I can set the genre
within WMP but I suspect WMP has a seperate database and so the tags are not
transferable to other media servers such the Buffalo Linkstation or
Twonkyvision.

What I really want to do is create these tags INSIDE the avi file so that
the genre and other tags move with the file in the same way as mp3 tags do.

I've tried abcavi.exe software but it doesn't seem to work (reliably).

Perhaps I'm asking for too much of an emerging technology such as digital
video but it the "Digital Home" is going to be successful, it has to be easy
to find what you're looking for.
Any ideas would be gratefully received.

AVI is not a good file format to use if you like to tag your files.
Emerging good technology is probably not going to be AVI based in this
arena: RIFF is a good crusty old format, but it's not really great for your
purposes right here. WMV or MPEG4 should have markedly superior tagging.
Sorry. =\
