"WMP Network Sharing Service" crashes PC, cant configure extender.

J

John S

I am trying to connect xbox 360 as media extender to Vista HP 64
desktop computer through wired router.
In "Network" xbox can be seen by PC. All network configuration appears
correct as I have spent hours on the phone with microsoft support.
Sometimes the extender configures in Media Center but the final
checkbox of the configuration process (connecting to extender) never
gets checked and configuration process hangs at this point.
The Microsoft support stopped at the point where I try to start
"Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service" and the PC
totally locks up. This then requires reboot and system restore to
make the PC functional again.
I believe that "Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service" must be
running to configure the extender so my question is how can I
find out what is causing the crash when I start the service?
System is fully up to date with windows update, WMP 11 is latest .7000
version.

Any help with this would be so very much appreciated and I feel
confident that the clever guys who read this newsgroup can succeed where
MS support have chosen to fail by pulling the plug!

Ran Windbg and got the results below, I'm no computer expert so
am not able to iterpret the results below but it looks as if it may be
something to do with FATFILE.SYS

The PC crashes when Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service
tries to start

Any help understanding this and resolving problem would be greatly
appreciated

Mike
