Hi,
My machine runs WinXPHome. The default player for mpg files is Windows
Media Player. However, if I get an mpg file via Outlook Express email, and
I double click on the attachment to open it, I get a choice:
Open it
OR
Save to disk
If I save to disk and open it, everything's fine, but if I choose Open it,
I get:
Windows cannot open this file:
File: filename.mpg
To open this file, Windows needs to know what program created it...
As you know, I'm given the choice to go online to determine what to use to
open it, or I can choose a program on my hard drive to open it.
If I choose to go online, I'm taken to
http://shell.windows.com/fileassoc/0409/xml/redir.asp?Ext=mpg
Where I'm told, "Windows does not recognize this file type."
Why does it open if first saved locally, but not directly as an attachment
in OE?
Thanks,
Bruce
