When I try to play a song i get this error
message "Windows Media Player cannot play the file
because there is a problem with your sound device. There
may not be a sound device installed on your computer, it
may be in use by another program, or it may not be
functioning properly." However, all my other sounds
work, including the same songs played through quicktime.
I've tried reinstalling wmp but it does the same thing.

.

It sounds to me like you have quicktime set as your
default player. quicktime is for a mac and if you don't
have one then you should uninstall it. wmp should go
back to your default player. Also, check for wmp
updates. Good luck
