WMM2 Missing Video Effects & Transitions

I have 2 WinXP machines--both has WMM2 installed. One of them only has 28 video effects & 60 video transitions; however, the other has only 5 effects (Grayscale, Mirror, Pixelate, Slow Down, Speed Up) & 4 transitions (Bars, Fade, Iris, Pixelate). For example, transitions like Shatter, Slide & Wipe are missing

At first I thought maybe those came from the creativity or winter fun pack downloads. But no new video effects or transitions were installed through them either

I'm pretty sure the main WMM2 is installed. The About dialog says "Version 2.0.3312.0". All the C:\Program Files\Movie Maker files seem to match against those on my other machine

Oh, one difference is that the machine not working is running XP Home and the one working is running XP Pro. I doubt that should matter..

Can anyone help? Thanks

Carl,

The Home version should have the same ones.... maybe download/reinstall MM2
over the exiting setup will resolve it.

Carl,

Check the DLL names, dates and sizes against the list I have on the Setup >
Software page of www.papajohn.org

Thanks, but unfortuantely that didn't help.

Could Windows be re-installing from the software in registeredPackage and
registeredPackage doesn't have the extra effects? (Just a grasp at
straws--tonight I'll delete the registeredPackage files and reinstall again
just to try it out.)

Hi there Carl,

When I first aquired those effects and installed, the system insisted that they
were present but I too could not find them. However, they were shown as being
installed in the Add-Remove programs option. What I did was to use the option
to remove them, then reboot the computer, confirm that the containing directory
had been removed (it wasn't), then used a registry cleaner to hopefully remove
any references...re-boot the machine again...this forces xp to see that the
files are indeed removed, and then re-installed the software.

It worked for me...hope it does for you.

Hi There,

That will teach me to read the question properly. For some reason I thought you
were asking about the add on packs that you can get. There is no Add-Remove for
the basic program and effects.

There is at least one way you can remove the Movie Maker 2 instalation...if you
have Symantec SystemWorks there is a monitoring program in the utilities
section...you could get that to do a monitor job of an instalation and then use
that program to remove the job lot. I can not say whether or not that is a good
thing to try...The utility monitors all of the registry entries accessed during
the install (That's where I think your problem is) and it will delete them when
it does the uninstall. After a reboot, you could then Install Movie Maker.

As I say, I can not be certain that it is a safe thing to try, I would
certainly expect you to create a system restore point and possibly do a full
backup as well. It might be the solution you need. But do it at your own
peril.............

If all else fails...I sell a good line in heavy hammers...I even have one now
for stupid posts :)

Thanks, John. I actually got SystemWorks not long ago and haven't installed it. I just might try what you suggested. Thanks.

Hi there,

Good Stuff Eh?

Make sure you know what each option means and understand what you are asking it
to do...its a great product but you can do some real damage with it as well
