WMM hanging

When I use WMM it takes about 5 minutes for it to load up. When I click
'Import Video' it usually imports the video (.wmv format) OK. When it has
imported sometimes it shows every frame as a picture and sometimes it shows
every frame but with just the first frame as a picture. When I click anything
on the page i.e a particular frame or the slider bar to bring down the clips
the program just hangs indefinitely and I have to click CTL, ALT and DELETE
to exit the application. Anyone know what is wrong please?

Which version of MM?
Have you tried unticking all the codecs in the compatibility tab?

Did it used to work ok?
If so, what changes have you made to the pc since then?
Try system restore to go back to when it did work.
