WMM Capturing problems

When I try to capture video I click FILE, CAPTURE VIDEO (analog thru a
Dazzle DVC170 USB adapter) a window opens showing the Dazzle and my webcam,
but when I choose the Dazzle, I get a wdw that says: "The device is not
responding. Close any other application that is using the device and try
capturing again" I do not know of any other app that is using the Dazzle!
Help anybody? Thank you.

More than likely it's "in use" by whatever software came with the capture
card. Pinnacle Studio, maybe?
Help anybody?

The device you describe above only supports MPEG 1, 2 and 4. I believe the
last Dazzle card that would output in .avi format was the 100 model.
Regardless;

Windows Movie Maker and MPEGs do not get along.

Best advice is probably to capture the video using the software that came
with the card and either edit with that same software, or convert the saved
MPEGs to .avi or .wmv so you can import them into WMM for editing.

If you plan to do that, for best conversion results, I would output the
originals as either MPEG-1 or 2. Definately not MPEG-4

Walter, thank you very much for your help. It sounds a little too much for me
to try but I'll see what I can do, but how can I change the output from the
camera? Remember, it's an analog one.

You don't. What I was suggesting is that you try using the software that
came with the device (instead of WMM) to capture the video from the cam. If
you haven't already, install the software and try capturing the video with
it. It's been a LONG time since I used that kind of setup, but before
starting the capture, look around in the 'help' section of the software for
setting up both the output directory and format. By directory I mean WHERE
on your machine the clips will go (so you don't have to hunt around for them
later) and by format I mean MPEG 1,2 or 4. I suggest setting the output
format to MPEG-2 if you plan on importing the clips into WMM eventually.
Even though WMM doesn't often get along with MPEG, I've had the most luck
importing and editing MPEG-2 files without having to convert them to .avi or
..wmv first.

My mental image of your current setup is as follows: An older (full-size)
camcorder with no fire-wire or USB output, connected to the Dazzle device
via red/white/yellow input jacks which in turn is connected via USB to your
computer. Is that correct?

Also? It would be a great help if you could NAME the software that came
with the device.
