having a problem importing *.avi file downloaded from my Canon SD750.

Error says.

C:\Documents and Settings\myname\Desktop\MVI_0082.AVI could not be imported.
Unspecified error

why

W

windowsplayer

I have Any Audio Converter.
so I convert SD750 *.avi file to customized *.avi and then import
collections to WMM and get this message.

The file C:\Documents and Settings\myname\Desktop\AVI\test_xvid.avi cannot
be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on
your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec,
close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again.

any suggetions?

I have Any Video Collector so I convert SD 750 *.avi to customized *.avi and
do an import collections and get below message.

The file C:\Documents and Settings\jay derman\Desktop\AVI\test_xvid.avi
cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not
installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install
the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the
file again.

Reason for all this is to add new *.wav file to SD750 video so I can upload
to youtube.

Is there an easier way or am I going in wrong direction here?

I Any Audio converter will convert *.mswmm to *.mp4 ?????

Are you running Windows Media Player 11?

In some cases...uninstalling WMP 11 and reverting
to WMP 10 will clear this up.

Also you might try comverting the .avi to .wmv:

I converted SD750 avi to wmv and it would not work in WMP and you are correct
I have 11.05721.5230

Do I really have to co back to version 10/

Isn't there some easier way to add a wav file to avi?
After it is added I have software to convert result to mp4 for youtube.

I give up. How do I go back to WMP 10?
==================
Uninstall WMP11

This may not solve your problem but
the only way to know is to try it.

OK.
Went to control panel add and remove programs and removed 11.
When I go to WMP I see 10.

I can play SD750 *.avi in WMP 10 no problem.

I can't open *.avi file in WMM and I can't import.

now what?
I found another *avi file, an old one. I can get it into large screen but
when I try to drag it to time line. No can do.

Can an *.mswmm file be converted to *.mp4 or else this is a waste of time
since I want resulting file to be on youtube?

W

windowsplayer

and when I try to drag a clip and drop it I don't see anything in clip boxes
on bottom.
And thanks for helping me with this.

W

windowsplayer

I see two files in large box. one a wav and other an older avi. Not one I
want.
If I highlight either I see either one depending which one in large play box.
So I can play and see video in box
and I can hear wav if I click on it.

Now how to combine both?.

W

windowsplayer

I'm making some progress here.
instead of using zoombrowser to download file I just explored it out by
dragged avi out of my sd card and set it on my desktop then using collections
I see it on larger screen and it plays.
Except it needs to be rotated 90 degrees right which Zoombrowser would have
done.

How do I rotate it?

And I do not see it when I try to drag it to timeline though it does play.

W

windowsplayer

more progress.
I have a collection window on left side.
It contains both avi and wav file I want to combine.

Bottom of screen says drag media storyboard to begin making a movie.

I already have a movie. It's in avi file. I just want to replace audio on
it with a wav file.

what now?

==============================
You cannot just add a sound file to a
movie clip in Movie Maker...

What you have to do is render the
completed project as a new file.

In timeline view drag the .avi to the video
track. Drag the .wav file to the Audio/Music
track. You can drag the audio file left or
right if needed.

Save options as follows:

To save as an .avi movie file...
(and several other options)
Type...Ctrl+P to open the Save Movie Wizard /
Choose...My Computer /
Next /
Enter a Name and a Save Location /
Next /
Show More Choices /
Other Settings /
Open the drop window and choose...DV-AVI /
Next /
Wait while the movie is saved /
Finish...

To save as a .wmv movie file...
Type...Ctrl+P to open the Save Movie Wizard /
Choose...My Computer /
Next /
Enter a Name and a Save Location /
Next /
Tick...'Best Quality For My Computer'
Next/
Wait while the movie is saved /
Finish...

I open a new projectI have problem in dragging avi or track to to timeline.

I drag and nothing shows up as there. I tried dragging a transition.
nothing.

I get part about saving except control P does nothing to bring up movie
wizard.
I looked in all tool bars for movie wizard could not find it. only option
to save is save as or save project as and choice being .mswmm

W

it appears as if I have same problem as others down this list 7/27/08 can't
drag and drop and if I can't drag and drop I can't control P, save and
eventually upload to youtube.

Any suggestion on how to add a wav file to avi?

====================================
In my first reply I suggested that you convert
the .avi to .wmv and you never addressed
the issue.

You could try going back to your original file...
not one that you have tried to convert and
follow these instructions:

How do I convert other video file formats to WMV?

or...
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/knowledgecenter/mediaadvice/0065.mspx

Seems to me we are not communicating
....maybe someone else can offer some
answers...I'm all out.

I did go back to original file and once again converted with Any Video
convert to WMV.
no change. could not drag and drop.
then I downloaded WMEncoder.exe.
Still can't drag and drop.
and if I can't drag and drop I can't control P or except to find windows
wizard which I have no clue where it is or when it will pop up.

Movie Maker 2.1 is not listed in Add-Remove
Programs. Windows Movie Maker 2.1 was
installed as a component of Windows XP SP2.

Maybe the following link will offer some ideas:
