WMI Generic Failure

Please help.

The error WMI generic failure is generated on running the manual backup Uo Now button in WMI Control Properties (Backup/Restore). I run a WIN 2k Server SP4 Build 2195. The message in wbemcore.log is Repository backup failed (possibly due to not enough disk space). There is 363MB Disk space free on the local disk(c:\).
Help Appreciated.
