Just wondering....if you go to...My Computer and
right click the icon for your CD-RW drive and from
the menu choose...Properties / Recording tab...
is the following option checked?

"Enable CD Recording On This Drive"

If the option is unchecked.....check it and be sure
to click...Apply / OK.

I have had that same problem and I usually just open the
cd door and push it shut again and the burner will start.
Other times I may have to just keep clicking on the start
or next or whatever it is asking for and eventually it
will go. It is not your cd's, it is something in the
system.

This is so frustrating! This is happening to me too. I know someone in my family has recently burned music CD's...and today I am trying to copy my digital photos onto a CD and my CD-RW keeps saying insert blank CD. I have tried shutting down, all these things...no luck. I took John Inzer's suggestion---ok, when I go to My Computer/CD-RW Drive/Properties...there is no "recording tab". I'm so confused.
Well now I read further and it looks like I may have to do this whole "regedit" thing and I'm not confident enough to undertake it--since you can crash the whole OS. Apparently my CD-R is not being recognized as a recordable device maybe??? Somebody help me please!!!! I am pathetic

Thank
Tracey

Hi--well, first of all, I'm a different Tracey than the original poster of this message. Yes I read the articles you listed. Since the recording tab is not shown in the "properties" of the CD-RW drive, I assume I would have to undertake the registry edit as described in
Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 324129:
The CD-R Drive or CD-RW Drive Is Not Recognized As a Recordable Devic

It's just scary because I'm afraid of crashing my whole OS. It mentions that possibility. Also it says it's just a work-around....also, can you tell me where on my computer I can find the "HCL"

Thank
Trace
