This sounds more likle a problem with the camera or th
driver than a problem with XP. Use of a card reader isn'
a Band-Aid, it's a smarter and more efficient way of
dealing with the problem. In fact, if you use a card
reader and the problem persists, you can eliminate th
camera and its driver as the source of the problem. I
suppose that would be too easy, though

OK pal, I spent $20 hard earned dollars for a card reader. I plugged it in, double clicked on the icon and BINGO. I got the same message (do you wish to format). Any chance you want to refund the $$

After unsuccessfully answering a question for the second time, maybe you should leave it alone the third time
So much for your smarter way......

Do you use "Quick Format?"
This article doesn't address a card reader per se, but a memory stick is in the same
category.
You Cannot "Quick Format" a Memory Stick

Please excuse the tardy reply, but I've spent the holiday
weekend communing with people who have brains.
Although you don't appear smart enough to realize it,
you have indeed inched closer to solving your problem--you
know that it's not a problem with your camera, which you
*didn't* know before. Additionally, you now have a card
reader, which I'm sure you will find a more convenient way
to deal with things. Unlike some of the regular
respondents here, I won't venture a further guess in the
absence of actual knowledge as to what might be the
problem in this case.
