Wirless Networking Belkin

I don't really know much about wireless routers so I'm hoping someone can be of assistance.
I have a desk top running Win XP pro with a cable modem and a belkin (wireless) router connected to it.
That router also used to be the internet source for my laptop, which runs Win XP home and has an belkin (wireless) card.
I want to have acess to both HD drives I have converted both hdd to fully shared drives but still can not access the drives over my wirless network. I suppose some on the net now that I have converted both drives to share can get in but I cant. I have tried to map both drives but cant find the laptop dirve with the desk top or the desk top drive with the laptop. I have done the Wizard thing I get the interernet on both machines. I cant seem to print to the desk tops printer which I set the printer up as a shared printer. I have road runner but that should not have any effect on my wireless network.
So to recap
I cant print from the laptop to the shared printer.
I cant access the desk top HDD from the laptop.
I cant access the laptop HDD from the desk top.

So, if anyone can lend a hand I would GREATLY appreciate it. Thanks!)

I have a Belkin wireless router and I have found that you have to have the
desktops that you want to share running the same protocol as the wireless
card's protocol in the laptop, namely the NWLink protocol. If you haven't
done this just go to the network properties and click on the TCP-IP
properties and click ADD and click protocol and find the NWLink and install
it.

This should share the laptop and the desktop.

I'm not familiar with Belkin products but I don't think you will need NWLink
(with all do respect to Jim N.)
It may be easier to configure your net while connected via ethernet first.
See link for tutorial
http://www.homenethelp.com/web/howto/net.asp
Be sure you disable firewalls when doing setup/troubleshooting.
Once completed you should be able to access your net via wireless.
I hope this helps (Jim if I'm wrong please let us know)

Mine only worked when I installed the NWLink on my XP desktop, TCP-IP did
not work, I had the same problem with an ME desktop and it would only work
when I loaded NetBEUI (I can't load NWLink on the ME as it is not available
as far as I know) on that machine!!?? But I still can't share the internet,
I guess since TCP-IP is not working together on the ME machine, it won't see
the laptop to assign it an IP address to use ICS with, HELP HERE IF ANYONE
CAN>>>>>

Thanks,

Hey Bud
I'm glad to see you took my re in the spirit intended !
Maybe this link can help in your setup
http://www.homenethelp.com/web/howto/net-update.asp
See the section entitled
"THEN Configure Computers With NetBIOS over TCP/IP"
I'm curious as to how/where NWLink got in the picture ?
Sure as hell I'm no expert but I haven't come across that before.
Best To Ya'll

Hi yellowpike, I assume that NWLink is a wireless protocol, and ME doesn't
have it. I apreciate the link, that is a nice page for some basic info, I
already have done all that though. I also noticed that it did not have a
link to work with a machine with a broadband connected to it for Win98 or
ME, it has one for one without the broadband. But anyway, my problem lies
somewhere in the way the wireless PC card on my laptop works and
communicates w or w/o TCP-IP's DHCP server to assign an IP address to share
with. Any other info would be helpful if you find any.

But no problem, I will probably sell the wireless router and my laptop soon.
Thge wireless networking speed has a lot to be desired and I have many other
complaints about the new HP laptop anyway....so since it's a 2.4 GHz unit, I
figure it will sell pretty well.....I'll wait until wireless gets much
better and reliable!!

Thanks,
Jim (Bud)
