Wireless settings -- Lock down to one wireless router?

J

Jon.boston

I'm building a device that I wan't to connect to only one wireless
router. I want it to boot and connect to this hub/password only. If
it's not there it shouldn't try to connect to anything. When the hub
comes back it should connect to it...

My problem is that when the wireless router goes away it will try to
connect to other routers and when I bring it back I can't always get
to the device.

The wireless router is a Netgear MR814V2 and the devices use
Microsoft MN-510 usb wireless adapters.

I need to make sure the device will boot reliabilly and connect to the
network since I can't get to it's console to fix the connection
issues.

Is there a way to lock it down?

If I need different hardware I would be willing to switch.

Thanks,
Jon

2. Right click on the wireless connection. Choose properties.
Goto the Wireless Networks tab.Click the button 'Advanced' at the bottom of
the page.Make sure that the box labelled 'Automatically conncet to
non-preferred network' is unchecked.
3. Select only your SSID in the preferred network.

Hope this helps

Rashmi. I have tried your advice (I have a similar issue
thread on this board) and I still experience behavior
similar to Jon. I think what Jon and I are looking for is
a way to tell XP to only connect to one particular
network and ignore all others. There doesn't appear to be
a way to do this.
