Wireless printer problem

Tom Brown

I have an HP DJ 6988 wireless printer that works off my home network with a
Linksys Wireless Router. We have two computer hardwired into the network.
My wife has added the printer via the Network Printer method.

When she prints to the printer, for some reason it pops up a Preview Box on
my computer and will not print until we click the Continue Printing button
on my printer. When I print from my laptop, I don't get this Preview
pop-up. We do not have the Preview selected on either machine.

In fact, it is difficult to get to the Printer/Properties on her machine. If
we right-click on the printer icon on her machine, we get an error message
about some Service not running. If we double click on the printer icon and
then look at File/Properties for the printer, there is no Preview option in
the General Tab, Printing Prefrences/Finishing dialogue tab.

Any clues?

HP 6988 printers can be a PITA. I have 2 of them. Do you have the
HPBOID/HPBPRO problem [looked at your Task Manager lately]?

I've never seen a "preview" pop-up window, either on a computer from
which I'm printing to the 6988 or on another networked computer. Does
this happen from all printing applications? What about if you print
from Notepad?

I'm also not entirely clear I understand your description of the
problem. Is this correct:
- You try to print from an application running on computer A.
- A box pops-up on computer B [what exactly does it say?].
- And then you have to go to the printer and push the button with the
downward-pointing arrow [3rd from the left]?

As to your other problem, if you go to Printers and Faxes and
right-click on the icon for the 6988, what exactly is the error message
that you get?

Did you install this printer using the install CD? While connected to
one of your computers by Ethernet cable? If not, how did you install it?

Were the drivers added directly onto her PC with the driver CD or she
got this printer drivers installed over the network?
