Wireless Networks and Windows XP

Rocky Bryant

Hello,

I have a linksys wireless router and a notebook running
windows XP. When I start up my computer there is no
problem with the internet connection, and I verify that
my wireless connection ("Rocky's Apt") is being used.
But shortly thereafter windows XP will find other
wireless networks (neighbors etc...) and disconnect my
current connection and ask me to select from a list a
available networks. Windows XP just won't stop doing
this process and it becomes annoying to keep doing this.
I have the "Rocky's Apt" as the only netork on the
Preferred Wirelss Networks list, just not sure why
windows xp keeps on trying to connect to lesser signal
stregth networks. Any help on settings to fix this would
be greatly appreciated.

thanks, Rocky

Right click the wireless connection, select View Available Wireless
Networks/Advanced Tab. Remove all but your connection from the
Preferred networks, add your connection if it is not there. HTH.

Q, thanks for the response, yes I have already made sure
that my connection is the only on in the preferred netork
list. Any other ideas?

Go to Wireless network connection properties, wireless networks, click on
advanced tab, uncheck "Any Available...." and check on Access Point......".
This solved the problem for me.
