how do I connect my computer with a wireless lan USB adapter to another
computer with the same adapter for file and printer sharing etc ?

also is it possible for a computer with a wireless access point plugged into
a modem which is plugged to my computer through USB to connect with other
computers through wireless lan or do I have to plug the wireless access point
directly to my computer for this to work.

If there are just two computers, with no wireless router or wireless
access point, set up an ad-hoc wireless network:

I'm sorry, but I don't understand the question. If you'll post a
follow-up news group message giving the manufacturer and model number
of each piece of equipment and a description of exactly how everything
is connected, I'm sure that someone can give you a good answer.

Hi

From your descriptions it seems that you are ready to join the crowd and
have real Network with wired and wireless.

Without getting into a long story the first step that you should take is get
rid of the USB Modem and get an External Ethernet Modem. It is an additional
expense but it will pay well down the line. Once you have such a Modem you
should connect it to a regular Wireless Cable/DSL Router (and the "sky is
the limit"). Any other solution either would not work or would be "Quirky"
at best.

Example for External Ethernet DSL Modem:
