wireless network printer sharing

My main computer is a Dell running Windows XP home. I've got an HP
Photosmart 7760 printer direct connected to it that I need to share with a
laptop also running XP and another laptop running ME. No problem sharing
with the XP laptop, but the ME is driving me nuts.

My understanding is that all I should have to do is go to Control
panel/Printers and faxes, then highlight the printer I want to share. Then
click on "Share this printer", Additional drivers, highlight the line for
Win 95, 98 and ME and then let 'er rip with the printer installation CD in
the drive. Problem is, it's looking for a file called HP_Install_7700_
which doesn't seem to exist on the cd. The cd says it can be used to
install the printer on all operating systems. I've downloaded drivers from
HP, but they're the same as the CD. That file just doesn't seem to exist.
Can anybody lend a hand?

Thanks,

Dan

What i think the problem is, is that it isnt for a fully
qualified file name I.E hp_install_7700_ should be
followed by the OS I.E hp_install_7700_ME if you can find
a file name that matches my example then try pointing the
installer to it and soo what happens. I thnk that this
will answer question of where is the file HP_INSTALL_7700
but if it doesnt please dont hesistate to ask me for
futher advise/information (e-mail address removed)

Regards,

Aaron

Thanks, but that didn't do it. Nothing on the CD or in the zip file with
hp_install or even the word install in any file names (other than
"uninstaller" and "uninstall_printer")

I'd forget about installing the additional ME drivers on the main
computer. Go to the ME laptop, install the HP printer as a network
printer, and give it the installation CD when it asks for it.

Thanks Steve. I tried that too. The installation got into a loop, and
after 90 minutes I finally cancelled it when it was still at 3% finished.
Very frustrating, but maybe I'll try that again, just in case.

Thanks everybody. I finally got it. Ended up taking Steve's suggestion.
Funny this is, I had already done that and ended up in an endless loop
during the installation process the first time. This time, I installed the
printer as a local printer, even had to physically connect it to the ME
machine to complete the install, and then after the install changed the path
to point at the Dell.

Anyway, it didn't work the way the instructions said it would by a long
shot, but it's working now.
