Hi there,
Any ideas on the following problem would be appreciated.
Here is my setup.
Windows XP Pro. with SP1a and all current Windows updates are installed.
AMD Athlon at 1.2Ghz.
512MB 133 RAM
80 Gig HD with 60 Gig free.
Abit KT7a motherboard.
BT Voyager 2000 802.11b Wireless ADSL router. (Globespan chipset)
BT Voyager 1010 Wireless adapter. (Globespan chipset)
While the connection seems to work for a time it will eventually stop
responding, the time it takes to stop responding can vary drastically from
30 minutes to 10 or 12 hours sometimes more. When the connection fails and
I am using the software that was supplied with the equipment it reports that
the connection to the ADSL router has been lost and it is impossible to
reconnect to it again unless I shut the PC down. If I simply restart the PC
the windows desktop will not load. If I use Windows XP to establish the
Wireless connection it will report that the connection is still active but
there is still no network traffic, again the only way that a functioning
connection to the Voyager 2000 AP can be established is if I shut the PC
down. In both cases I am sometimes able to repair the network connection
but this never helps. Every time I try to right click on the wireless
network connection and select status the status window opens for a split
second then closes again.
I have formatted and reinstalled Windows XP Pro
I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting the wireless adapter from the
PC.
Installed on other USB ports (versions 1.1 and 2.0)
I have disabled the "allow the computer to turn this device to save power"
option for all the USB hub options in device manager and the 1010 network
adapter its self.
I have had the Voyager 2000 AP and the Voyager 1010 adapter replaced.
I have tried disabling and enabling the wireless network connection.
Normally when I try and enable it I am told that Windows has failed to
enable the device.
I have increased the IP address lease time from 1 day to 500 days.
Set the connection options to "always on" within the Voyager 2000 AP
I am not using an external USB hub. I have 4 onboard USB 1.1 ports and 4
USB 2 ports on a USB PCI controller card.
This problem is driving me round the twist because it means I can't leave
the computer downloading form the net for long before the network connection
crashes.
Thanks,
Iain.
