Wireless mouse and Sleep - Any resolutions?

The one item that is keeping me from using Vista x64 on a regular basis is
this issue. I would be happy if Vista would at least activate the screen
saver.

I have a MS Desktop 6000 mouse and keyboard. I've gotten Intellitype and
point 5.5 to install using the method found on Neosmart. But still can't
get screensaver or sleep mode to engage.

Anyone out there have a method to end this madness?

Just pull the wireless reciever out of the USB port when done using PC as a
temp. solution.
