Wireless Modem

I am trying to use my cellphone as a wireless modem for
my Toshiba laptop. I am running Windows XP Home. I
cannot get the computer to recognize the phone as a
modem. I had to use an adapter to connect the data cable
to the computer, and I wonder if this might be the
problem. (The computer doesn't have a serial port, so I
had to buy an adapter to go from serial to USB.) I can
get the installation done to where I choose a port, but
this is where the problem occurs. I am given the option
of choosing all ports or only selected ports, but
the "all ports" option is blacked out, and the "selected
ports" option doesn't give me selections to choose. So I
cannot progress any further. I am also consulting with
my cellphone manufacturer to figure out the problem.
Thanks.

Suggest posting this query in the MS newsgroup for wireless networking.
Go to this site:
http://communities.microsoft.com/newsgroups/default.asp?icp=mscom&slcid=US

Select windows.networking.wireless in the left hand column.

NOTE: If you have trouble bringing up that site (it takes a bit to load to
the list of newsgroups), you may want to go to the main entrance here:
http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/default.mspx
and then drill your way down to the appropriate group.

PS: Note the link at the top of the newsgroup web pages for information
about using an NNTP newsreader. Windows includes Outlook Express, a
mail/news program. It can be setup for news only if you use another email
client. Most people find it much easier to follow their favorite newsgroups
(and to find the answer to their questions) using a newsreader instead of
the web interface.
