Can anyone tell me the steps involved in installing a wireless
keyboard for my sony vaio laptop?

This would depend entirely on the wireless keyboard you bought and whether
it needs software. Check the manufacturer's documentation; this isn't going
to be an XP (or Sony) issue.

Steps:

1) Buy wireless keyboard.
2) Open the box. Read the install guide
3) Most of the time, install guide would state: Install software from
included CD first, before connecting keyboard "receiver" onto the PC.
4) Charge (if required) and install batteries onto the keyboard
5) Shutdown / Reboot the PC
6) Connect the wireless keyboard "receiver" onto PC.

7) Use keyboard

8) Buy extra batteries. Wireless device (keybaords and mice) tend to
consume battery power very fast.
