I run a veterinary office software for client/patient record management on a
laptop that access our hardwired server wirelessly. If the program go idle,
after a while the laptop seems to lose the wireless connection. The desktops
that are hardwired do not have this issue. I have solved the problem somewhat
by having the laptop ping the router using ping servername -t . The problem
stops when I do this. We don't have a lot of network traffic, so this isn't
an issue for that. The problem comes because of the way the boss wants the
system configured, he only wants the laptop to acces our broadband
connection. This means we have 2 wireless conections for the laptop. Yeah,
cumbersome, but this is what I have to work with. The broadband connection is
fine, just the wireless server connection. When we switch back and forth, I
have to redo the ping operation, or we have the conection problem. So, any
simple way to get around this problem and still do what the boss wants? I
have sort of got him convinced to connect the broadband to the wireless
router, because I can limit Internet access to just the computers he want to
have it. I don't think will fix the other progam's issue.
