Wireless client cannot see the server question

E

Eric

Did a real quick setup of my new netgear wireless equipment.

My desktop server is connected to a port on my wireless router and my
laptop (client) has a wireless card.

The server can see, ping, and connect the the client's shared folder.
No problem there.

However, the dhcp client laptop (windows 2003) cannot ping or see the
Server (windows 2003). It does see the wireless router and can ping to
it and it connects to it fine.

Any quick suggestions are welcome. I'm a programmer and I'm a bonehead
around networks.

Thanks,
Eric

Windows 2003 has a built in ICF firewall like XP Pro does. I would first check that
the ICF firewall or any other personal firewall/ipsec filtering/vpn client software
is disabled on the computer you can not access connected to the wired port. Use
ipconfig /all on both of them to see if they are on the same network, etc. --- Steve

You need to check your IP address settings on both your desktop server and client laptop.

- Have you issued a ping using both the IP address and the name of the desktop server
- Check the gateway IP address of the DHCP client laptop, it should be set to the wireless router IP address
