wireless access point.

Hi,

Was given a Wireless Access Point to use in my home. The access point
is connected directly to my computer which shares it's Internet
connection with other computers. I am then wanting to use my Laptop to
then access the internet through my computer, through the wireless
access point.

I have set up the access point, so i can now get the admin section
open.

The IP address for the access point is: 192.168.1.240
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1

The IP of my computer is: 192.168.1.1

I can connect wirelessly to my computer with the laptop, but can not
get connected to the internet.

The laptop IP is : 192.168.1.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

I am not sure if i need to set the default gateway on the laptop, or
the DNS settings?

Is the default gateway on my Access point supposed to be the IP of my
computer which has the internet connection?

What should the settings be for the Laptop?

Thanks

Internet Connection Sharing requires the host computer to use
192.168.0.1 for the IP address of its local area network connection.
ICS won't work properly if you change that address.

Change the access point's IP address to a value in the same subnet,
such as 192.168.0.254. Then, disable ICS and re-enable it so that the
desktop's local area network connection gets the required 192.168.0.1
address.

The access point doesn't need a default gateway address. You can
assign 192.168.0.1 if you wish.

Configure the laptop to obtain an IP address automatically. If that
doesn't give it Internet access, make these settings manually:

IP Address: 192.168.0.x (1<x<254)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
DNS Server = 192.168.0.1 or your ISP's DNS server

If you had a wireless router, not a wireless access point, you'd also
have to disable the router's built-in DHCP server.
