Wireles Connection on Laptop

I downloaded some Microsoft Updates. After rebooting I could not connect to
the internet using ie6 even though it said the connection was enabled. I
right clicked on the wireless icon but had the message that "Windows could
not setup the network" and to click on "change advanced options" then
wireless network tab and select checkbox "use windows to configure my
wireless network settings". This worked and I was able to access the internet
using IE6. However on every subsequent reboot I have to follow this method.
The checkbox always deselects itself on power down/up. Any ideas???
