OK here goes.... I have WindowsXp home. When it was in
stalled everything worked but my scanner. So I purchased
a new HPpsc1210 All in one(scanner and printer) I can NOT
get it to install! When I first try to install it says I
have no usb ports. When I uninstal the Usb ports then
serch for them the computer finds them then the install
starts but it gets as far as plugging them in and nothing
happens!! I am pulling my hair out! I called HP and the
guy there was pulling his hair out to. Checked BIOS
working fine. So he said it must be a windows xp problem
the scanner I had was xp compatable and so it this new
one. I hope someone can help me here. It would be greatly
appreciated.Thanks so much!

OK, first, read the installation documentation and see if HP wants the
driver installed *before* the scanner is connected to the computer the
first time. Alternately, see if the installation wants the scanner
connected the first time when the installer tells you to connect it and
not before that time.

In any event, you can try to clean things up from the previous attempts.
Connect the scanner. Cancel any installation that initiates. From
Scanners and Cameras control panel, remove any instance of the scanner.
From Add/Remove programs, remove any HP software for the scanner,
particularly TWAIN. From Device Manager, Select to view hidden devices.
Look carefully for anything having to do with the scannner, especially
in the USB section. With the scanner still attached, shut down the
computer. Disconnect the scanner. The scanner should be removed from
your computer. Now you can install the scanner exactly as the
instructions want it installed. BTW, if there is a camera connected to
the USB, it can interfere with the scanner installation.

Make sure your USB Drivers and Chipset Drivers are updated. Aida32 is an excellent and free tool that even gives links to the driver sites for most of your stuff. Then you will need to clean your OS up completely eliminating all evidence of the scanner and it's drivers. Then you will need to install the disk in your drive and install all the HP apps. Then plug the scanner in and reboot. Be sure that after installing all the HP stuff off the disk you immediately go to the updates and update the application before you plug in the scanner. Most of the HP issues are a result of not updating the USB and Chipset drivers. e:mail me if you need additional assistance and I will point you in the right direction. Good luck.
