WinXPe boot from ROM?

Can WinXPe boot from a rom chip? I've read somewhere that WinCE will boot
from a ROM chip from our current designed systems, but wondering if I could
do something similar with WinXPe and EWF?

If the machine's BIOS recognises the ROM as a valid boot device - I've built
a system running from a DOC for example - then there's no reason why not.

XPe can boot from RAM.
You can make simple custom loader that will transfer image from ROM to RAM and then do supported RAM boot.

XIP appears to exist in ntldr and kernel but it is not documented and known how we can use it, or whether it is completely
supported.
