WinXP won't boot up :(

I got the blue screen of death and when I tried rebooting, I got a message
saying it couldn't find the Windows/System32/Config/System file and to use
the WinXP disc to repair it. So I tried that, but then it tells me there's no
HDD detected. I ran a Linux LiveCD and I was able to access the HDD with
that, so I know it's not a physical connection problem. What do I do?

- When you tried the WinXP repair process, did it tell you that there
was no hard disk (your words) or did it tell you that it could not
find an instance of Windows XP (my guess)?
- When you ran the Linux CD, did you see any folders on the disk?
In particular, did you see the folder C:\Windows?
- Does the BIOS boot-up screen show any disks?
