winxp + win95 : bootsector question

D

Dirk Hermans

Hi,

I have a current system with WINXP installed.
Master : c:\ NTFS - WINXP

I want to install a second hard drive with WIN95 on it. I want to add
the second hard drive to my system so I can dual boot WIN95 / WINXP to
arrive to this situation :
Master : c:\ FAT32 - WIn95
Slave : d:\ NTFS - WINXP (old c:\)

Two questions :
1/ How do I create the WINXP boot sector on the WIN95 hard disk ?
2/ will WINXP work as before (now it will be d:\, before c:\) ?

Tx in advance,

Dirk

No, XP won't boot after you've made the change.

I don't think you can do it. If you move XP to D drive, all the
registry references in XP will still be pointing to C drive. I don't even
think a repair install of XP would do it. You'd have to do a clean
install of XP on D. When you do that, the dual boot thingy will take
care of itself.

Put the Win 95 drive in as the second drive (XP = C:, 95= D:) and download
this http://www.osloader.com/ I've seen it work with XP Pro on C: and 98 (A
HD from a bad computer with 98 installed) on D:. HTH

I tried this tool, but when starting win95 it started up and it
started showing 'found new hardware' and never got out of it.

I have now freshly installed win95 and will try it again. Maybe it
works this time.

tx for the reference. It gives some courage to try it again.
