When I shut down WinXP SP2 I get a blue screen with a MS logo and "Windows is
shutting down..." Recently, on about 1/2 the shutdowns, nothing happens
after this point. "Windows is shutting down..." just stays there. There is
no sign of computer activity: no flashing LED, no sounds from the hard drive.
And, no, it is not installing updates.
As an experiment a couple of months ago I waited 45 minutes before cutting
power to the computer. Just last week I waited 30 minutes for the shutdown
to be completed. Usually, after about 5 minutes, I get tired of waiting and
cut the power.
This used to happen about once a month. Now it happens daily.
Help.
