WINXP Pro Upgrade

G

Guest

Upgraded from Home to Pro and I have lost my internet connection.
Every time I try to activate the Pro or connect to the NET I get the
following message:
"The requested lookup key was not found in any active activation context".
Have checked my internet settings and they appear to be as they were.
Any help/advise would be appreciated.

Thanks

Was there installed antivirus/security suite actively monitoring the
system during the upgrade ?
Go to Start > Run > type in

winver
Click OK
Does it show SP2 installed ?
If yes, open a Command Prompt from Start > Run > type in

cmd
Click OK
At the prompt, type in, and then push Enter after EACH line

net reset winsock
exit

Restart the system
Can it connect now ?

Yes to the first question, antivirus was active. (AVG).

SP2 is installed.
When I type cmd the command prompt screen only appears for a split second.

Hi, should have also mentioned that I cannot open the "Help and Support"
facility on the Lpatop.

I am currently trying a reinstall without the Antivirus.

Just finished a fresh installation of WINXP Pro upgrade and am sorry to say
that the result is the same.
Cannot connect to the Internet even though the Laptop knows whether or not
the network cable is attached.
I am not on a network but my internet connection is via a cable modem.
And I cannot still open the "Help and Support" facility.
The command prompt window is not opening either
Getting desperate now.
Please help and thanks
