Compaq Presario 1800T notebook has WIN2000 Pro as the OS.
But it's corrupted and I can't run any programs or backup
my hard drive. If I use the restore disk to reinstall the
OS then all the applications and data files will be lost.
I'm considering upgrading to WINXP Pro. Will that WINXP
Pro upgrade disk install WINXP Pro as my new OS over a
corrupted WIN2000 Pro?

Not too long ago, I successfully upgraded a computer to Windows XP Pro
that had a very corrupt installation of Windows 2000. So my
guess is you can perform the upgrade also. Just make sure you
select the default "Upgrade" option during the setup phase.

After upgrading to XP Pro, you should visit the Compaq support
website and search for updated Windows XP drivers for your
Compaq Presario 1800T notebook. It is important to download
and install any Windows XP drivers available from Compaq.
