Well, not exactly dual cpu's, but going to a hyperthreading CPU which
I understand looks the same to Windows.

Anyway, what do I need to do to get windows XP Pro to load the Multi
processor Kernal. I see where I can get into Device manager and select
it, but I've been told not to do this.

Should I do a repair? Is there anyway to do this withought reloading
everything from scratch?
Thanks, Rick

Check out the following thread on Google and see if that gives you the
information you seek:

Thanks, yes some good information over there.
I think this is the procedure I'll try..

- Install all hardware
- Boot from XP-cd
- Select install (not repair)
- Select the same partition as previous installation
- Then you will receive a second time the possibility to repair the
existing
Windows, select repair at this time

Now XP will detect all the hardware as a new installation without the
need
of reinstalling all software.
Don't forget F6 during setup if you want to install the drivers for
the
controller !!!
This is the only correct way to redetect all hardware without loosing
your
settings and having 99% success.

Just a couple of additional comments - agreeing with the approach.
This will retain your existing software installations and most settings.
But Updates will have to be run again, especially SP1;
It is important to activate the basic XP Firewall before you ever
connect to the net to get the patches, so as to be protected against
things like the BLAST worm. And backup critical data before *any* major
operation like this - just in case!
